mouth guard – does it work for snoring?
Question by Twiggy: mouth guard – does it work for snoring?
Has anyone used a mouth guard as a solution for snoring and did it work? I would like to get an idea of the “chance for success.” before begging my husband to get one. I am tired of sleeping in another room. He won’t do the cpap so please don’t suggest it. And he’s tried the nose tape and the elastic around the chin thing. (no success).
Let me know if you’ve tried the mouth guard and if it works! thanks very much .

My dad uses the Pure Sleep mouthguard (you might have seen it on tv) and it works quite well. It allows my mom (and him) to get a better night’s sleep. The biggest problem for him is that it basically has to dislocate your jaw to work properly, so sometimes his jaw hurts for a while in the morning. But once he got used to it, it works great. He also tried many methods to stop his snoring including surgery and this is the best solution for him by far.
Good luck!

There are devices that are like a mouth guard and are specifically made to correct snoring and sleep apnea. Ask your dentist about them.

It seems to be kinda like the nose tape, for some people it works and some it doesn’t. Basically the nasl passages are obstructed. Sleeping on your back will most often cause one to snore. This tends to flatten out the curve in the neck and close up the airways more which is why back sleeping most commonly causes the most snoring. A good neck pillow (http://www.arc4life.com) will maintain the neck curve and keep the sinus passageways more open. There are a few other things that can contribute to the snoring, but a neck pillow will be a better choice than a mouth guard.
