My husband snores, a lot… He is a mouth breather, which causes more snoring, when he rolls onto his back it is the worst. He doesn’t just stop breathing like with apnea, but sometimes his tongue falls back in his throat cutting off his breathing momentarily, so he adjusts, and then is soon snoring again! We’ve tried the sprays, mouth rinse, breathing strips, humidifiers, herbs, everything affordable. I don’t want to invest -0+ into a device and then have it not work. Any advice?

Go to your dentist and ask about a mandibular advancement splint. Basically what it does is place the mandible (bottom jaw) foward therefore opening that area of the throat which causes snoring. Working in a dental lab, I’ve made basic ones which are formed to your teeth like high end mouth guards which require an impression of your bite from your dentist and those run around 50$. I’ve also made ones that are a thousand times more complex that run in the thousands of dollars. CPAP machines also work, if he gets headaches in the mornings or gets tired easily during the day then more than likely his snoring is more along the lines of sleep apnea. CPAP machines work by maintaining a constant flow of air through your airway so the fleshy flap that causes snoring can’t move freely thus no more snoring and much more oxygen into your lungs so you enter a deeper sleep stage therefore are more rested.

Hi, I have a CPAP machine for a mile case of sleep apnea but it isn’t very comfortable. I’m wondering if anyone would recommend any of the other devices available such as a mouthpiece, chin strap, special pillow, or any other device or method you may have tried? Thanks

It is always important to follow the instructions of your physician – some types and degrees of sleep apnea can be helped with other devices than the CPAP machine but if you were prescribed the machine, it is probably because nothing will quite do the trick.

I have tried all of the items you suggested and eventually they did not work sufficiently to help me to continue to breathe at night.

I know that the CPAP isnt the most comfortable piece of equipment, but you do get used to it (we are very adaptable, we humans) and for me, it has given me the best sleep ever in my life.

I would clearly see if your physician thinks you can make the substitutions.

Has anyone had sugery to stop snoring?

I suffer from snoring pretty bad and my poor wife is loosing sleep. I’ve tried decongestion drugs, nasal rinses, nose clamps to keep the airways open and anti histamines. Does anyone know of anything that really stops snoring?

Has anyone undergone Radiofrequency palatoplasty or Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, have these helped?
I’ve had a test for sleep apnea and I get enough oxygen during the night, which is good. It just doesn’t help my wife.

My daughter suffered alot from snoring. It caused her to have sleep apnea. As it turned out she had really large tonsils & adnoids. After her surgery she doesn’t snore at all. I don’t know if this helps any but good luck.

Yes, you can use breath rights, they are little strips that look like butterfly bandaids. you put them on your nose and it helps with snoring. Hope this helps!

My boyfriend snores terribly and its very loud! I’ve tried getting him the strips, nasal spray, and throat spray and nothing has helped.

If you still have your tonsils, that may be the problem. Your tonsils may be enlarged; hindering the way air enters and leaves your body. If tonsils are removed, go to the doctor for a sleep study. They keep you overnight, and they monitor your vitals while you sleep. I found out I had sleep Apnea, where I stop breathing for a brief time while I sleep. Hope this helped

That does not sound right somehow. That sounds like it could be dangerous in fact. What if the nose was blocked?!!! No I don’t think it is worth investing in as I think it sounds dangerous potentially.

Try a pillow behind the back to stop you rolling onto your back in sleep. Most snoring occurs when you are on your back. Try two pillows instead of one to keep the head raised. Try Olbas oil on the edge of the pillows to keep airways open. Lose weight if overweight by taking up more exercise and restricting fatty/sugary snacks and stop smoking if you smoke. Being overweight and smoking are linked to snoring.

As a last resort see a dentist about a mouth/snore guard as that is better to invest in as it is supposed to work.

I tried a bunch of the tried and true methods. If it is not a CPAP machine, It does not work for me.

If you have medical insurance have your doctor refer you to a place for a sleep test. You will be glad you did.

It turned out that I stopped breathing (literally) 52x an hour.

Since I got on the machine, my life has changed completely.
